The basic idea behind gamification is one of introducing ‘game mechanics’ to motivate interest, participation, a touch of challenge, and ultimately greater loyalty.   At its core, gamification in loyalty and incentive programs generates greater member participation by appealing to people’s competitive nature (and sense of fun!).  Gamification can support the broader program goals, or can be used to drive behavior for a specific goal (such as registration, completing surveys, generating referrals, etc.).
